OUR MISSION STATEMENT

 

  • Swimbridge School aims to provide a happy, secure and caring environment where each child has the opportunity to develop his, or her, true potential.

     

  • We seek to develop in each child a sense of achievement, encouraging high expectations and self esteem within a framework which promotes attitudes of mutual respect and responsibility.

     

  • Christian values are built into the ethos and teaching. The school aims to give high priority to the spiritual and moral development of all in its care.

     

  • We see education as a partnership between children, staff, parents and governors and encourage the involvement of all families, and the wider community, in all aspects of the life of the school.

SCHOOL HERITAGE 

 

 

‘School Heritage’ is a special Swimbridge Publication of 100 pages is available from the school. This covers 140 years of our Devon Village School seen through the annals of the school log books. " A fascinating insight into education in the past". 

11.2.1876: Rev, Russell visited school on Wednesday and ordered that 6d should be given to each of 10 girls for coming to school neat and tidy"

 

29.9.1870: J. Snell, H. Down very backward - it is quite a hopeless case with them.

 

4.9.1944: Reopened school this morning. Admitted 5 official evacuees, 2 unofficial evacuees, also 1 Devon infant.... Miss Bambridge (Croydon evacuated teacher) in charge of Infants and Standard 1...........

 

12.10.1923 - Received notice authorising the closure of this school for 3 weeks owing to the prevalence of scalet fever.

 

13.3.1989 - The School Band participated in the Devon Schools' Prom at the Great Hall, Exeter University, representing the Primary Schools of North Devon.

 

26.3.1918 - Upper school attended the funeral of Roland Irwin. He was accidentally killed outside school by a traction engine.

 

17.2.1887 The Bishop of Madagascar visited the school at 9.30.

 

29.05.2009 Class 4 travelled into Barnstaple by service bus (an experience in itself) to visit Pizza Express to make pizzas and then for a field trip around the town to study it's location and history. Many positive comments from the public about the children's excellent behaviour.
