Dear Parents,
The end of a long and eventful term has arrived. Nativities, pantomimes, carol service, parties etc have come and gone. Our recent accolade of maintaining a position in the top 5% of schools nationally is reported in this week's North Devon Journal.
DVDs of the pantomime should be available next term.
Next term Year 1 children in Class 1 will be moving to Class 2, and the oldest children in Class 2 will move to Class 3.
Also next term, older children will be having swimming lessons at the North Devon Leisure Centre. Details of who and when will be given at the beginning of January. In the new term, Maths Club will be starting for all Year 6 children on Tuesdays after school. We hope all year 6 children will be able to attend.
In January we will be advertising for a Clerk to Governors, following the retirement of Mrs Kay Pigden who has fulfilled this role for many years; we wish her well in her well-deserved retirement. Filleigh School is also seeking a Clerk. We therefore would prefer to appoint a person for both schools (for an honorarium payment of £744.80 for 80 hours work per annum at each school), although an application for the position at just one school would be acceptable. Applications can be made by post, or via the vacancy page of our website. We also require a cleaner in the new year. If you know anyone who would be interested in this position, please see me
Congratulations to the following children:
Silver 'Bookworms' certificates to : Ethan Young and Paul Crossley
Merit Cards
Card 7 Scott Ansell
Card 8 Haydon Vickery and Ethan Young
Card 9 Millie Cloak
We close this afternoon for the Christmas holidays and re-open for children on Wednesday 3rd January 2007.
Happy Christmas!!!

Dear Parents,
This has been a great week at Swimbridge School. Our KS2 Pantomime on Wednesday was a resounding success performed to a capacity audience. The actors obviously enjoyed themselves and this resulted in loud clear voices so that, hopefully, everyone heard everything. This was followed by a further good performance on Thursday afternoon.
Classes 1 and 2's production of the 'Wriggly Nativity' was first class. The children worked very hard (as did the staff) and this was evident at Friday morning's performance.
Many thanks to everyone for help and support for these performances, especially the school staff who undertook many extra duties to ensure that all went well.
Hopefully, a dvd of 'Up the Beanstalk' will be available in the near future.
On Thursday the government published the Primary Schools league tables. We would prefer that these tables did not exist, but they are a fact of life. You may be interested to know that, once again, we are within the top 5% nationally on the value-added table. This compares the Year 6 performance this year at KS2 with their performance 4 years earlier at KS1, and tracks their progress. It is based around 100. The top 5% have a score of 101.8 and above. Swimbridge achieved 102.3 this year, putting us 5th in Devon (as last year) and highest in the North Devon District Council area. Out of 17,642 Primary Schools in England, we are joint 209th. This ranking needs treating with care, but it does give some indication of how thing are. For more information go to:

Next week we will be holding our Christmas Carol Serice commencing at 9.30am on Wednesday 13th December in the Parish Church. Everyone is welcome - so come along and join in the carols old and new.
On monday 11th December (for classes 3 and 4) and Thursday 14th December (for Classes 1 and 2) we will be holding our Christmas parties in the Jubilee Hall. Donations of food and drink can be taken to the office at 8.45am, or to the Jubilee Hall between 12.30 and 1.00pm. Children should be collected from the Jubilee Hall at 3.15pm.
Children who have guitar tuition on Thursdays will have missed their lesson this week. As this will be the last session for this term, the Guitar teacher, Mr Parker has kindly agreed to re-schedule these lessons for Monday morning 11th December. Please make sure your child has his/her guitar in school in the morning.
School Christmas Dinner will be on Wednesday 13th December - it is not too late to book a place.
