10 Oct 2006 - Ted Holmes

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Ted Holmes, headteacher at this school for 19 years, until 1981. Ted was a real character and after leaving the airforce undertook 'emergency' one year teacher training. He took up the role of headteacher at Swimbridge School in 1962, living in the school house next to the school. His wife, Joyce, also taught in the school.

Ted's last visit to school was in July this year when we celebrated our 140th Anniversary. Prior to that he came to look round our new office extension, and try out the 'wheel-chair' access, as this photograph illustrates.
