NOW WE'RE ALL LOLLIPOP PEOPLE
18:00 - 29 January 2004
A safety conscious village school has boldly gone where few have gone before. Nearly all the staff have qualified as crossing patrol wardens to make sure pupils get across the road safely.
For crossing the main road is a regular part of the school routine for pupils at Swimbridge Primary.
It has no sports hall of its own so youngsters have to walk across the road to a field or the village hall for PE and games.
Head Garry Reed said: "We decided - with the county council's backing - that it would be a good idea if our staff were legally empowered to stop the traffic.
"Most schools have to take children out of their premises at some time. We decided we wanted to do it in the safest way possible."
