10 Oct 2003 - Class 4's visit to Cobbaton Combat Collection

We are very lucky that close to our school, over two hills, just 3 miles away is a unique educational resource about the Second World War. Cobbaton Combat Collection is visited by pupils from our school every two years when they study child related aspects of the 1939 - 45 period. There is just so much to see - tanks, armoured cars, morrison and anderson shelters, weapons, clothing, ration cards, posters..... you name it and it is there.

Once again Preston Isaac, the owner, and his son showed our children around. This place really is a hobby which got out of control. Along with visits to our school this term by an ex wartime pupil and an ex evacuee, this visit really enhances children's learning. What makes it even more interesting is that many of the rehearsals for the D Day landings took place locally at Saunton Beach and Instow. Montgomory is supposed to have planned his unit's part in D Day at Dennington House, just over the hill from our school.
