9 Aug 2003 - Admissions to our school
This ammended admission policy has still to be agreed by our governors.
ADMISSIONS POLICY
ADMISSIONS
Children are usually admitted at the beginning of the admission period during which they reach their fifth birthday, a term or so before the statutory requirement. Admission periods are in line with current Local Authority policy:
Child's date of birth Admission Point
1st September to 28th February Commencement of Autumn Term
1st March to 31st August Commencement of Spring Term
Deferred admission will be considered.
We welcome children on a part time basis, usually for one half day session each week, for the half term prior to their taking up a full time place. During the first week that Reception children start officially they normally stay for mornings only, followed by mornings and lunch times the following week. By the third full week they should normally be attending for the entire day.
Children transferring from another school are admitted at a mutually convenient time.
ADMISSION CRITERIA
The following criteria are used for the priority of admissions, should this be necessary:
1. Looked after children living in the designated school area with siblings already at the school or from practising Church of England families.
2. Children living in the designated school area with siblings already at the school or from practising Church of England families.
3. Children of practising Christians of other denominations (as defined by Christians Together in Devon) living in the designated school area
4. Children living in the designated school area.
5. Looked after children not living in the designated school area whom otherwise fulfil the requirements of 1, 2 or 3 above
6. Children not living in the designated school area whom otherwise fulfil the requirements of 2 or 3 above.
7. Children not living in the designated school area - priority being given to children with siblings at the school, then considering distance from school ? the nearer the school the higher the priority.
NOTES
Christian connections might need to be supported by a letter from the relevant Church minister or pastor
The school (or class) is deemed full when the school?s pupil admission number (PAN) has been reached, or when there would be 30 pupils or more in a key stage 1 class. An admission might not be accepted if, in the opinion of governors and Headteacher, this might prejudice the education of existing pupils.
Parents do have the right to express a preference of the school they wish for their children. If they are unhappy with a decision regarding admission, an appeal can be made.
