Dear Parents,
As we draw near to the end of term the staff and I would like to wish you and your families a Happy Christmas and to thank you for your support and encourage-ment. School closes Tuesday afternoon (December 17th) Weather permitting, please join us for Carols in the playground at 3.15pm
Copies of our unique school calendar are now available from the school office or myself. At only £2.50 these make an ideal ?stocking filler? for grandparents etc., and an indispensable aid to all families. Pictures and self-portraits by the children along with birthdays, term dates and fascinating quotes from our school log books are included. We also have copies of the CD ?Hosanna Rock? at only £5.00, another unique Christmas present.
There is an interesting display of Aladdin/12 Days of Christmas in the entrance porch. Copies of photos on the red card can be ordered at 55p each ? just let Mrs Wadsworth have the number of the photo(s) required along with the correct remittance. Videos of the performance should be available early next term when a CD of Aladdin performed as a radio play should also be available.
It was good to see the Parish Church full on Wednesday for our school Carol Service. £90 was raised for our Action Aid sponsorship and the National Childrens Homes. If children in Classes 1 and 2 wish to keep their Carol Service lanterns, we would appreciate £1.50 to help defray costs.
On Monday afternoon Classes 3 and 4 have their Christmas party. They need to bring their food/drink contribution to the library in the morning and should be collected from the Jubilee Hall at 3.30pm!!
On Thursday 16th January, Class 4 will be travelling to Park School for a performance of The Golden Key ? more details next term.
Next Flute/Fife lesson Wednesday 15th January 2003
Unless children walk home on their own (you will have already informed school of this) children must not leave school at 3.30 until parents arrive to collect them. It is vital that parents inform us if someone different is going to collect children. For the safety of everyone, please remind your child that he/she must not go through the gate until you actually arrive.
Congratulations to Becky Peat for attaining her ASA Gold Swimming award earlier in the term.
Also Christpher Shapland 15 mtrs
John Dallyn 20 mtrs
If you know of a family locally who is having financial difficulties buying presents for children, please contact me, in confidence. I have been advised there is an organisation which might be able to help.
Please return your school photos or remittance on Monday at the latest.

Friday 6th December 2002
Dear Parents,
Many thanks for the great support with our performances at the Jubilee Hall. We hope everyone really enjoyed themselves. Special congratulations must go to the children who performed so well and worked so hard. In total we raised £277.00. .
On Monday afternoon we have a performance by Cragrats, an Educational Theatre Group sponsored by B.T. Their performance concerns speaking and listening. Please see the accompanying letter.
The winner of the Family Quiz was Marie Courtenay. This raised £30.00 towards PTA funds. The Quiz (and answers) will shortly be on our school website.
The Christmas Party season is fast approaching. On Thursday 12th December, Classes 1 and 2 will have their party in the Jubilee Hall, and should be collected from there at 3.30 please. On Monday 16th December, the same arrangements will apply for classes 3 and 4. On both occasions we ask that all children bring contributions of suitable food and drink on the morning of their party to the school library. These will be shared out for the party tea. A few volunteers would be appreciated to help with the tea ? please see Class Teachers if you can help.
Our annual Carol Service will be held at 6.00pm in the Parish Church. We hope that all children and parents will be able to attend ; children should wear school uniform. Besides the opportunity to sing traditional carols, we will be performing a brand new Christmas Musical ?Christmas Praise?. Classes 1 and 2 will be dressed in nativity costume, forming a nativity tableau. Please will parents with very young pre-school children bear in mind that they do need to be very quiet so that they do not spoil the service for others. I understand that some people had difficulty hearing all of the pantomime performance on Wednesday due to a few noisy pre-school children
We are rather concerned that just before school closes in the afternoons a few pre-school children who come with their parents to meet their older brothers and sisters, often run into school making quite a lot of noise, or play on the playhouse. The school cannot be responsible for pre-school children. We ask parents to keep pre-school children with them at all times. Your co-operation is appreciated.
We have now had confirmation that the upgrading of the boys cloakroom and office extension will commence next February.
If you have any concerns about your child at school, or would just like an update of progress, please book an after-school interview with your child?s teacher.
Congratulations are due to these children for their swimming success :

It is still not too late to book a Christmas Lunch for your child ? please send £1.30 to Mrs Wadsworth on Monday.
These children have completed stamp cards for hard work, helpfulness and good behaviour :
Card 5 Bethany Balment
Card 6 Madeleine Mansell, Taylor Dunn
Card 8 Alex Haydn-Higgins, Amy Lane
Card10 luke Hynes
Card11 Natasha Hill
We have now had the majority of Parental Volunteer ?Criminal Disclosure Forms? returned. If you have not shown Mrs Wadsworth, or myself, the required ?evidence of identity?, please do so within the next few days. We only need to see them, and sign to say we have done so, so please do not send these documents into school. Mrs Wadsworth is available in the school office from 8.45- 9.30 am, or 1.30 ? 4.00pm.
Due to the cancellation of the Christmas Fayre, we will be holding the Christmas Draw in Class 4 on Monday 9th December at 3.35pm. All parents are welcome to come into school at that time. Please ensure that all sold and un-sold raffle tickets are returned to school before 9.30 on Monday morning.

Dear Parents,
You will be well aware of preparations for our KS2 Pantomime to be performed on Wednesday 4th December at 2.00pm, and Thursday 5th December at 6.30pm. All children from Years 3 (including some in class 2) to 6 are involved and have worked very hard in a very short period to perform their highly original work. Space will be especially limited on Thursday, so we encourage those with pre-school children to come on Wednesday. Our own KS1 children will be watching on this occasion, and so all children will be dismissed from the Jubilee Hall on Wednesday. Admission is just £2.00 per person (Primary age children and younger free) and profits will go towards our sponsorship of our two ?Action Aid? children. It is understood that many parents would like to video the performances ? this can cause disruption and make it hard for others to see, so one ?official? video will be filmed and copies offered for sale afterwards at a reasonable fee.
So many parents have supported our pantomime with helping children rehearse, scenery, props and costumes, that we have decided to cancel the Christmas Fayre on Saturday 7th December and concentrate on the production. The PTA will be providing refreshments and a few other ?events? during the performance (e.g. Guess the weight of the cake, Guess the name of the Teddy, Cake Stall). The Christmas Draw will still take place and be drawn on Monday 9th December at 3.30pm, all parents and friends are invited to come into Class 4 on that date; people not present will, of course, be notified.
If you have any spare old jewellery that you would be prepared to donate/lend to the school for the Christmas Play, please see Mrs Ferris. She also needs one more mop-cap, please.
Don?t forget the School Carol Service on Wednesday 11th December at 6.00pm.
We had a tremendous gift recently when Lightquest donated £2000 from the summer?s event to our school. This will provide the balance owing for ?Claires House?, and special reading and reference books. Thank you Lightquest.
We will be having our school Christmas Lunch on Wednesday 11th December. If you would like your child to have lunch on this occasion, and he/she does not normally have a school lunch, please fill in and return the slip below, together with the sum of £1.30. Children who usually have a
school lunch do not need to fill this in.

Dear Parents,
Next Friday, Class 3 will be having a Physical Education Skills Enhancement session at South Molton School. They will need their P.E. kit.
Many thanks to those parents who have offered to help with our pantomime. A special thanks to the children who are working so hard learning words etc. Soon we will be starting rehearsals in the Jubilee Hall.
On Monday 9th December, we will be having the visit of a theatre group sponsored by B.T. to give a presentation linked with the school?s speaking and listening work. More details nearer the time.
It now appears that our office extension and boys cloakroom upgrade will commence during mid-February.
Sadly our Caretaker, Christine Down, has decided to leave due to family commitments. I?m sure you join the staff in thanking Christine for providing such a high level of service at our school.
There are a number of Governors and parents who were given the Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure applications. You will notice that we are required to see evidence of identity i.e. passport, driving licence, marriage certificate, birth certificate. Mrs Wadsworth is able to give further details and authenticate evidence seen.
Children in Class 4 all have a homework diary ? please can parents encourage/support their children with their homework activities and sign the diary each week. Brass players also have a similar Practice Diary which also needs parental support please.
Mrs Ferris is very keen to find some child-sized tutu?s for the Christmas play. If you can help, please see her.
