Swimbridge Village
The village of Swimbridge has been here since Saxon times, or before. It is located about 4 miles south east of Barnstaple, the main town of predominantly rural North Devon.Below is a copy of a water colour of the village (on display in the village hall) as seen from Dennington Hill,
Below this is a winter portrait of Swimbridge including the Parish Church and Jubilee Hall seen from our school field.
The Parish Church is well worth a visit. Last century Jack Russell (of terrier dog fame) was the rector. He enjoyed many country pastimes including riding and hunting. He was also the first chairman of Governors of Swimbridge School. The village pub is named after him. How many other schools have a pub named after their first chair of governors? There is further information about him on this site.
Running through the village is part of the Tarka Trail, made famous by Henry Williamson's book, 'Tarka the Otter'.
